Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

WIA has a goal of increasing employment, retaining employment, and to increase the earnings of participants by enhancing job skills. Businesses and county officials power the system; individual participants must be willing to earn the benefits of the Workforce Investment Act(WIA). Each person will be responsible for creating his or her own individualized employment plan, and one-step delivery services will help those involved to reach their stated goals. This is accomplished by the use of Core Services, Intensive Services, and Training Services.

Core Services are:

  • Job search and placement assistance
  • Job listings
  • Outreach, intake, and orientation
  • Follow-up services for twelve months following job placement

Intensive Services are:

  • Comprehensive assessments of skills and service needs
  • Development of an employment plan
  • Career counseling
  • Case management services
  • Short term pre-vocational services

After utilization of Core Services and Intensive Services, if participants and their case managers then determine a need for additional training to increase pay, participants may receive those training services

Traning Services include:

  • Occupational skills training
  • On-the-job training
  • Skills upgrades
  • Customized training for an employer who commits to hiring
WIA funds will be targeted to help customers obtain skills that are high demand occupations for the county.
