    Disability Financial Assistance

The Disability Financial Assistance(DFA) program is designed to give disabled individuals with little or no income some financial support while they wait for disabilty income(Social Security, SSI, Worker's Compensation, etc...) to be approved. This program also comes with Medicaid. If you are approved for this program, you can receive up to $115 per month and you will also receive a Medicaid card which covers all medical services(as long as they are approved Medicaid services).

WARNING: This program does not give you cash assistance or medical assistance right away. It can take up to 4 months or more to be approved.

WHY??? Before you are approved for this program, you must meet income and resource guidelines. After you are found income and resource eligible, we start our County Medical Services(CMS) process wherein we gather all your medical and employment history information. You will be given medical forms to have your doctor complete. If you do not have a doctor, we will provide you with a list of doctors who accept the Medicaid card or have sliding scale fees based on income. You also need to apply for Social Security Disability. Once all medical information is received, we send your CMS case to Columbus where a board of doctors review your medical information(this usually takes at least a month). When they are finished reviewing your case they:
    1. Approve you for disability then cash and medical benefits start effective the date of the application(sometimes the medical can be backdated if you have unpaid medical bills three months prior to your application date).
    2. Defer your case and request more medical information then we will contact you to ask for any more or new medical information you may have.
    3. Deny your case and find you ineligible for Disability Assistance. If you are denied, you may request a State Hearing to appeal the denial.
If you have any questions about this program, please contact us.
